What is Puff Screen Printing?
Puff screen printing is a special effect technique used in garment decoration that creates a raised, 3D texture on the printed design. It’s similar to traditional screen printing but uses a puff additive mixed into the plastisol ink. When heat is applied during curing, the ink expands and puffs up, resulting in a soft, elevated finish that stands out from the fabric—both visually and to the touch.
Puff screen printing can create an eye-catching design to make you stand out from the crowd. The process involves the same setups and processes as standard screen printing but it allows for excellent, special 3D effects to be applied to your design.
You can give your full design a raised effect or limit it to certain elements within the design to give it the desired effect and to bring more attention to a specific point. There are no limits to your creativity and you can create whatever design you would like to achieve.
One of the many advantages of the 3D effect is that it makes your design or logo stand out more, hence the exposure to the public will be higher. It can also create a unique, stylish and casual design.

Why Choose Puff Screen Printing?
Puff screen printing offers a unique way to add texture and dimension to your garment designs. By incorporating a puff additive into the ink, the print expands slightly during curing, resulting in a soft, raised finish that adds depth without compromising comfort.
This technique is particularly well-suited to bold text, simple graphics, and logo work where a bit of texture can enhance the overall feel of the garment. It provides a tactile, durable finish that maintains its shape and softness over time.
Puff printing is a popular choice for fashion brands or brands looking to introduce subtle detail and texture into their designs—without the need for added colour or complexity.
If you're looking for a finish that’s distinctive, long-lasting, and adds a refined layer of interest to your products, puff screen printing offers a modern, reliable solution.

Uses of Puff Screen Printing
Puff screen printing is one of the most versatile printing techniques and so it works very well with nearly all garment types except for garments which feature long fibres. Most cotton garments are suitable for puff screen printing, but if you have a specialised garment that you require and are unsure then please contact us and we will be happy to provide you with more advice. Our friendly staff will answer you within minutes and will help you to proceed further.
We can always screen print onto t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, polos, tote bags and many more products and so we will be able to find a solution that meets your needs.
Please Note
Printed garments are more sensitive and need extra attention when it comes to washing. To preserve the print and the garment, it is recommended that you wash it inside out on a cold wash. Do not use a tumble-dryer and do not iron over the print.

Puff Print Hoodies
A puff print hoodie is the perfect blend of comfort and standout style. Using a special puff printing technique, these garments feature raised, textured designs that quite literally pop off the fabric. Whether you're creating black puff print graphics for a bold streetwear look or designing a full custom puff print tracksuit, this method adds a unique 3D effect that brings your brand or artwork to life. Unlike standard prints, puff print hoodies and puff print sweatshirts have a soft, elevated finish that makes them both visually striking and tactile. We offer puff printing hoodies using high-quality puff print vinyl and puff print transfers for precise, long-lasting results. If you're looking to expand your range beyond hoodies, our puff print t shirt custom service ensures your entire collection, from tees to outerwear, stands out with depth and detail.

Advantages of Puff Screen Printing
1. Raised Texture
Puff screen printing creates a unique, three-dimensional effect that makes the design stand out both visually and to the touch. It adds texture that standard flat prints simply can’t match.
2. Premium Look & Feel
The raised finish gives garments a high-end, stylish appearance—perfect for fashion-forward brands or designs that need to stand out.
3. Bold, Simple Designs Shine
Puff ink works best with bold graphics, large text, or solid shapes, making it ideal for statement logos and minimalistic designs.
4. Long-Lasting Quality
When properly cured, puff prints are durable and hold up well over time, keeping their structure and colour after multiple washes.
5. Excellent for Streetwear & Urban Fashion
This technique is widely used in lifestyle and streetwear collections due to its trendy, tactile aesthetic that elevates simple tees or sweatshirts.
6. Can Be Combined with Other Effects
Puff printing can be layered with flat screen print or other inks (like metallic or glow-in-the-dark) to create even more impact and originality.
Disadvantages of Puff Screen Printing
1. Limited Design Detail
Puff ink expands when heated, so it’s not ideal for fine lines, small text, or intricate artwork—it can cause the details to blur or become distorted.
2. Fewer Colour Options
Puff inks typically come in a limited range of colours, and they may not achieve the same vibrant detail or gradients as digital or sublimation printing.
3. Thickness Can Be Restrictive
The raised texture, while stylish, might not suit every type of garment or design. It can feel bulky on lightweight fabrics or be uncomfortable in large areas.
4. Higher Production Complexity
Puff printing requires precise control of ink thickness, curing temperature and timing. Small errors can affect the final result, making it slightly trickier than flat screen printing.
5. Not Suitable for All Fabrics
Best results are usually seen on cotton or cotton-blend garments. On synthetics or performance wear, the puff effect may not adhere or expand properly.
More Printing Techniques
Beyond traditional methods, our range of additional printing techniques opens the door to even greater creative control. From ultra-detailed digital prints to precision embroidery and tactile embossed finishes, these methods are perfect for adding depth, personality, or a premium touch to your garments.
