Nine designs, 64 shirts, one afternoon of village cricket: the Colonel Garrett Cup

The brief

Sixty-four T-shirts in a variety of colours and sizes, worn by the teams taking part, each team in its own colour. Across the 64 shirts there were nine different prints, and each had to land on the right colour.

What we did

An order this size would normally be screen printed, but not when the prints differ from shirt to shirt. CAD-cut vinyl suits a job with many different designs: no screens, no set-up per design. The only cost is that vinyl has to be cut and weeded by hand, which becomes a problem with complex artwork. This was text, so it was not.

The result

The shirts arrived with time to spare, the local paper photographed the teams in them, and although the client’s own side did not win, the day did what it was for.

The tournament

Cookham's pubs were heavily represented, with teams from The Kings Arms, The Jolly Farmer and the event sponsor The Old Swan Uppers. Eight teams were split into two groups of four, with winners and runners-up going through to the semi-finals, and each side was allowed only two regular cricketers, which kept the games close.

As the house manager at Cookham Dean Cricket Club put it, it gives people who used to play a chance to have a go and join in. A raffle raised more on the day, and the money was split between the club and charities including Daisy's Dream, which supports children and families affected by bereavement.
