A hundred aprons, a hundred totes, then pens by Thursday: Gumtree’s Upcycle Revolution
Woodworking workshops need aprons. Gumtree’s Upcycle Revolution, where participants learnt to rescue old furniture with designer Max McMurdo of Reestore, needed a hundred of them, plus a hundred tote bags, and the artwork arrived in a state that could not go straight to print.
The brief
The agency Manifest London came to us for 100 printed aprons and 100 printed tote bags for the Gumtree event. The aprons were for participants to wear during the workshops; the totes were for the same crowd to take home.
The artwork file we were given was not of the highest quality, so before anything could be printed we amended the designs and made them print-ready.
What we did
The designs used a lot of colours, and because the artwork was vectored we recommended transfer printing for both the aprons and the totes. We also tested screen printing, which gives a higher-quality, more durable print and is the more environmentally friendly option.
Once the garments were done the client called back: could we also produce 150 pens and 150 notepads? We agreed the options, sent the pens to the print location nearest the client, and they were printed and dispatched from there within two days.
