See How Promotional T-Shirts Helped Survivors of Suicide Spread Awareness

The Client

World Suicide Prevention Day is an international event aimed at increasing the general public’s awareness of suicide, how to identify signals of suicidal behaviour and where to seek professional help. Many local events take place each year on September 10th. This case study will reference the support group ‘Survivors of Suicide’ in Belfast and Castlereagh.

The ‘Survivors of Suicide’ organised an information stand at Connswater Community Centre from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m and offered the possibility to book free “safe talks” to both individuals and companies. These presentations aim at giving attendees insight into how to identify signs of suicidal behaviour, and raising awareness of resources available to residents in their community.

The Challenge

This is the first event like this that has been organised by the support group in Belfast and Castlereagh so they wanted enough T-Shirts for all the attendees.

Claire Curran, Secretary and Support Worker of the Survivors of Suicide support group commented on their success, “We were hoping to have 200 people at the event and we surpassed that with around 350 people attending the event. We are absolutely delighted that we managed to get a serious message out in a fun way.

Curran explained that the 70 printed T-Shirts worn by the support workers and everyone involved with the support group increased the awareness of their campaign, and identified the support workers as key contacts with the general public. Curran added, “In hindsight, we probably should have gotten more t-shirts, because people kept asking for them!”.

The event was a huge success, especially since it was the first one of its kind. We had press coverage by the local BBC, and many attendants spoke about the event on Facebook and Twitter, raising more awareness. We are really happy with the outcome.”

The support group is already planning the next event, the “Celebration of Life”. It will take place on November 23rd.

Garment Printing’s price beat promise for charity was the crucial factor for us. As a support group, we had a very strict budget. We have worked with a local company before, but they were very costly and they were unwilling to negotiate. With Garment Printing, we received lower costs of production and a very personal service, plus a lot of support and flexible customer services.” States Curran.

Gavin Drake, director of Garment Printing, took care of the order personally: ”We are honoured to support and sponsor Survivors of Suicide with their campaign, promoting awareness of their cause. We will stay in contact with them to promote all their future events with our extensive client database. It is a good cause and one our company is very passionate to support.”
